Our Programs
We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with ill and injured children.
Caring for sick and injured children is a traumatic experience for any family. Having to travel long distances, away from your home and your community, often for an unseen amount of time, only exacerbates this trauma. Thanks to the support of our local community, RMHC North Australia can provide families with a home away from home in their greatest time of need.
Today, the Charity operates five programs across the North Australia region; from the tip of Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands, south to Mackay, west to Mount Isa, up through the Northern Territory, and everywhere else in between. Last year we proudly cared for 12,866 families across all of our programs. Thanks to the continued support of our Mission we also celebrated a significant milestone with the launch of a fourth RMHC Hospitality Cart to service the children and families at Mackay Base Hospital. Our existing RMHC Hospitality carts in Darwin and Townsville continued to provide comfort and practical assistance to children and families during their hospital visits.

It all began with an offer: “In 2 weeks we will have 100 soldiers who can come and help your mission - how do you want to utilise them?” From this, Help Our Little Heroes was born. It started as a Doorknock appeal and in it’s first year we hoped to raise $5,000 - the troops came home with $20,000. The next year, this doubled to $40,000.
During COVID, we had to pivot, and the Army hit up Shopping Centres and McDonald's Drive-thrus. This year, we are expanding to cover the entire North Australia region, getting businesses, families, and schools involved. For us, it is the 1RAR Battalion that continues to lead the way
